Late night fannishness and germs, not necessarily in that order

After waiting for the other shoe to drop for over three weeks, I have finally developed the requisite AC-induced cold that hits me every time I visit India. Blech. Luckily, I learned my lesson this time and entered the country armed to the teeth with a six-month supply of every cold medicine known to man. So I've been resting in my hotel room all day, which is better than working though slightly more claustrophobic.

Since I knew I'd be staying home today, I allowed myself to stay up until 3am being fannish. ::feels moderately guilty about this::

I didn't mean to stay up until 3am, it just happened. They were really big fannish deals, and I can't be expected to exercise restraint in the face of such temptation. First was HP6, which rocked like a big rocking thing. I meant to sleep at 10pm, but the pages just kept turning themselves, and then I was so close to the end that stopping wasn't really an option. Then, within one minute of finishing HP6, swear to god, the final two eps of QAF S5 (the series finale!!) finally finished downloading. Well, obviously, after two sleepless nights waiting for these two episodes to see how it all ends, I can't really be faulted for immediately watching them back-to-back.

The topical whiplash between these two nuggets of fannish goodness wasn't as huge as you'd think. I was completely unspoiled for both of them, as I am for all things, and so was completely enthusiastically blown away by everything everywhere. My normal mode of operations is Uncritically Accepting, Easy-to-Please Fangirl, and so of course I was characteristically happy with all of it. I'm sure I'll have more to say on them later when the head-fogging cold medicine goes away. For now, just, wheeeeee.

Oh, man, get some local drugs. You can get stronger things over the counter in India than you can in the US. I caught a bad cold when I was in Chennai, and OTC drugs saved my life and made me functional, which their US counterparts never do.

I am particularly nostalgic for the seriously throat-numbing cough drops. I brought several boxes home with me, and hoarded them zealously. Only the worst sore throats were Indian lozenge-worthy.

Interesting! I have had SUCH the opposite experience. I had the absolute worst cold of my life in January 2003 when I was traveling all over the country for work, and no one anywhere was able to offer me a single drug that provided any relief.

Seriously, the trip was 17 days long and I was visiting a different vendor each day, and every one of them sent out a runner to pick up some drugs matching the description of my symptoms, and nothing ever did a thing for me.

Do you remember anything in particular (brand name, identifying features) of the cough drops? One, I could use some myself. Two, I could send you some.

Alas, I don't remember the name. They were round and flat and orange-flavored, and came in strips. Like, er, condoms. Except foil inside and paper outside.
